in this episode:
President Bush?s light weight sanctions against the Sudanese are welcomed by few and found to be toothless by most as said sanctions announced is to simply press the United Nations Security Council to adopt a new package of international sanctions, including an expanded weapons embargo and the prohibition of military flights over Darfur. Announcing the new measures at the White House yesterday, President Bush said the Sudanese government was responsible for "genocide" in Darfur, and the world had a responsibility to end it. But in reality, the president has little influence over the known perpetrators of the mass rape and murder because of limited resources the U.S. has to use as a threat. Since America is thoroughly bogged down in Iraq and Afghanistan, while embroiled in an ongoing war of words with Iran the U.N. seems the only way the Bush administration can make things uncomfortable for President Bashir and his crew.
