Monica Goodling, a former researcher at the Republican National Committee, served as the department's liaison with the White House until she ran for legal cover in early April. Testifying under oath with guaranteed immunity she gave the White House more headaches yesterday, accusing Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty of misleading Congress about the eight U.S. attorney dismissals. Goodling testified that she, herself ``crossed the line'' by checking out people?s political leanings when giving consideration for career gigs at the justice department. But the damaging remarks came when Goodling disputed McNulty's assertion that she withheld information from him about the extent of White House involvement in replacing U.S. attorneys before his Feb. 6 Senate Judiciary Committee testimony.
